These are the hallmarks of cancer - and they represent something rare in drug discovery: targets that are essential to cancer's existence, not incidental to one tumor type.

Cellular plasticity - disrupting the stem-like state that cancer cells can adopt to drive persistent cancer growth and metastases
Growth checkpoints including the DNA damage response and replicative immortality - targeting mechanisms that allow cancer cells to divide without limit
Resistance to cell death - overcoming the survival signals that let tumors persist under treatment
